History Stopsley Striders jogging club was formed in 1983 from the embers of a local jogging course organised by local
international athlete Tony Simmons. We now have an average membership of 180, of all abilities. County champions to those who just run to keep fit or just to
complete a fun run. Our main aim is to keep running fun and to enjoy ourselves.
Coaches We have 15 qualified coaches who take coached sessions on club nights. These sessions are aimed at improving the
quality of your running. The coaches are also available to offer advice and write schedules. Over the country..... We are primarily a road and cross country club. During the winter we take part in Three Counties Cross Country league,
a local cross league against similar clubs where we have enjoyed a degree of success. We also take part in all the regional
and national cross country races.
.....and on the road In the spring and the summer, most of our racing is on the road. We enter runners in all the county championships and
have had many county champions. Many of our runners travel in groups to races further afield, such as the Great North
Run and we also organise coaches to the London Marathon and other races for our members. Don't think we are a club
for high flyers, we have all levels of ability and ages from 16 to over 70 years old.
Keeping informed To keep up to date with what the club is doing, we have an email newsletter and a up to date notice board as well as
club night announcements. We also have many entry forms for various events.
Something to aim for As you get better you can try for one of the many club standard badges which are available. These are given to runners
who achieve certain levels of times within a calender year.
Club Championship & Time Trials During the road race season, the club also organises club championship within local events, championship distances are
from 5km through to the marathon. We also organise time trials which take place on club nights.
