Club Info

History

Stopsley Striders jogging club was formed in 1982 from the embers of a local jogging course
organised by local international athlete Tony Simmons.

We now have a membership of over 200, of all abilities. From County champions to those who just run to keep fit or just to complete a fun run. Our main aim is to keep running fun and to enjoy ourselves.

Where & When

We meet at Inspire Luton Sports Village, Hitchin Road, Luton, LU2 8DD on Monday and Thursday nights in the downstairs meeting room, from 6.45pm with club notices at at 18:50, out and running from 19:00. Bag storage will be in the ground floor lockers – don’t forget your 20p.

After any announcements our members split into groups to run at varying paces. After a run and a shower most members meet in the pub afterwards for a chat and perhaps to arrange a weekend run together.

Prospective members have one calendar month before joining, to decide whether Stopsley Striders is the club for them.

Coaches

We have several qualified coaches who take coached sessions on club nights. These sessions are aimed at improving the quality of your running. The coaches are also available to offer advice and write schedules.

Over the country…..

We are primarily a road and cross country club. During the winter we take part in the Three Counties Cross Country league. It’s a local cross league against similar clubs, and we have enjoyed a degree of success. We also take part in all the regional and national cross country races.

…..and on the road

In the spring and the summer, most of our racing is on the road. We enter runners in all the county championships and have had many county champions. Many of our runners travel in groups to races further a field, such as the Great North Run and we have also organised coaches to the London Marathon and other races for our members. Don’t think we are a club for high flyers, we have all levels of ability and ages from 18 to over 70 years old.

Keeping informed

You can find updated information on what the club is doing, here on the News page and announcements are made on club night.

Something to aim for

As you get better you can try for one of the many club standard badges which are available. These are given to runners who achieve certain levels of times within a calendar year.
