June 2019 – Chairmans Comments

Another great month for the club, June brought us runs before the sun came up and as the sun set, 2 club championship races – Marston 5K and the John O’ Callaghan 5 mile, a not so hot St Albans half, the start of the Luton AC series and our first club invitational run.

For your info the club championship races are decided by the committee at the start of each year, they are popular races for striders of all distances from 5K to a full marathon. We look at the results of these races and give certificates for the top three runners in each category. This year they are –

Marston 5K
John O’Callaghan 5mile
Luton AC 10K
Leighton 10 mile
Love Luton Half Marathon
The 20 mile and marathon we count any rac of that distance

The beginners course is still going strong and we are averaging 70 runners on a Thursday evening, thank you again to our leaders in running fitness and coaches for leading the groups and also to our members for helping with the groups and encouraging new runners, I know it is very much appreciated by beginners and our coaches.

Next month we have our some more races in the summer series, our track time trial, the Alan Taylor run, Fairlands Valley Relays and beginners graduation on the 20th July at Luton Wardown parkrun.

Hope you enjoy the warm summer evenings and this glorious sunshine, although it’s maybe not the best for running in.
